$11 billion is lost in Medicare fraud, waste, and abuse each year.

You pay for it through lost taxes that were supposed to fund Medicare.

Medicare is health insurance provided by the federal government that pays for doctors visits, hospital stays and other health support services for senior citizens and some people with disabilities. Without Medicare, many people would not have coverage for health care.

Unfortunately, as much as 10% of Medicare charges are fraudulent. These charges waste public funds and reduce the potential health care to people who need it.

The Aging & Long-Term Services Department's Senior Medicare Patrol educates the public about how to prevent Medicare fraud, waste and abuse.
